- Where Does The Money Go?
All income from ticket sales go directly to the artists. When you buy tickets from this website you are supporting the people who make the music you care about.
- About Undertow Music Collective.
The Undertow Music Collective began in 1996 as a group of independent musicians sharing ideas and resources. We work closely with a select roster of artists we love, respect, and call our friends. Our goal is to create a friendly and productive environment for these people to make music while keeping their integrity and artistic vision intact.
We opened our mail order store in 1999 to help our bands sell their music and shirts on-line. A few boxes of CDs and t-shirts stacked in the corner of a spare room has grown into a full-time job over the last few years. We've been able to expand our store by offering great music and exclusive merchandise at the lowest possible prices with world-class customer service. We have shipped thousands of orders to people all over the world.
We started the ticketing website in 2008 when David Bazan first started playing living room shows. We've since expanded ticketing services to other artists on our roster and have put on over 500 successful living room shows.
- Who We Are.
Bob grew up in Nashville, fortified by a steady diet of southern soul music and indie rock. He got his start in the music business in 1991 by working in the drum shop at the historic Hewgley’s Music in downtown Nashville. He then took a job as tour manager for Uncle Tupelo in 1993 and worked with them until their final show. He continued working as tour manager for Wilco during the recording and touring to support their debut album in 1995. Around that time he started working with the Bottle Rockets, Centro-matic, Nadine and Dolly Varden. Bob joined some friends at Undertow in 1996 as a means to help bands record and release music without the restrictions of traditional record labels. He moved to Chicago in 2000 and, over the next few years, expanded his management roster to include Pedro the Lion, Jay Bennett, Mark Eitzel, American Music Club, and Grammy award winner Jesse Harris. Bob moved to Champaign, IL in 2005 where he enjoys the lack of traffic and slightly less snow. He constantly thinks about LP records, vintage BMW motorcycles, bicycles, iced tea, and The Big Lebowski.
A graduate of Millikin University, Adam split his time between Undertow and Polyvinyl Records before coming to Undertow full-time in 2006. Adam restlessly oversees logistics and career planning for several of our busiest bands. He’s the glue that holds this place together. In his spare time Adam enjoys bicycling and sneaking into country clubs to use their top-notch, yet underutilized tennis courts.
- Environmental Impact.
We are big fans of the environment so we try our best conserve energy and recycle as much as possible. The only paper we generate during the order process is the packing slip we put inside your order. We use energy efficient CFL light bulbs in our office and warehouse space. The bubble mailers we use for shipping CDs are light-weight poly material made from recycled plastics. We use these because they are water proof, tear resistant, reusable, and no trees are harmed to make them. The LP and 45rpm mailers we use are recycled cardboard. Poster tubes are made from recycled materials. The poster tubes also make really good swords for Pirate Friday. Aaargh!
